Telangana : Amplifying its commitment to build climate resilience, AB InBev – the world’s leading brewer, commissioned its fourth brewery in India to shift to renewable electricity as its source of power. The adoption of renewable electricity at the Charminar brewery in Sangareddy, Telangana contributes towards AB InBev’s global commitment to secure 100 percent of the company’s purchased electricity from renewable sources by 2025. Earlier this year, AB InBev’s Crown Brewery in the Medak district of Telangana had partially moved to renewable electricity, following its breweries in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

With a project capacity of DC 990 KWP, the solar panel installation at the Charminar brewery will generate approximately 4000 units of energy per day (annual average per day). With an electricity requirement of 38000 units per day, AB InBev’s initiative will start augmenting to meeting 10% of electricity requirement at the facility.

Speaking on this milestone, Ashwin Kak, Procurement & Sustainability Head – India & South East Asia, AB InBev said, “We remain committed to investing in our communities, having a positive impact on the environment and overall, building a brighter future. The adoption of solar-generated electricity at our fourth brewery reinforces our 2025 global commitment. We look forward to augmenting this initiative across more breweries in the country to support India’s ambitious UN SDG goals.”

With the right geographical location and terrain, there is a huge potential for renewable power. India has set ambitious renewable energy targets, and AB InBev is committed to supporting the country to achieve these goals. With its four current breweries, AB InBev India’s breweries will source approximately 13% to 15% of electricity through renewable sources, which will be progressively enhanced to 100% by 2025.
